Almaoke Festival's rules
Please read these series of rules to participate in our Almaoke Festival.

RULE n.1
Each group must be composed of 4 members; no more, no less.
As a FAN, you can join as many groups as you wish. But you can join only one group as a SINGER.
If you're looking for colleagues to create your own group, post your call in our discussion thread "Busco colegas".
RULE n.2
Once you've joined a group or created your own as a SINGER, fill in the SUBMISSION FORM.

In order to select the groups that will participate in Almaoke Festival 2009, we're organising a casting call that will take place during the month of December 2008 at Almazen. You will find all info regarding the casting call and submissions following this link.
At the casting call you must perform two songs:
1. The QUARTET number.
2. The SURPRISE FACTOR, applied to a song of your choice during your submission.
If you live in Barcelona or its outskirts, you MUST ATTEND the casting call. If you live farther away and it's difficult for you to attend on the dates assigned by the organisation, you can submit a video of your group performing the QUARTET number to the following address:

You must also upload the video in your group's page.
Note: doing the cast "virtually" will somewhat reduce your chances of being selected, as we will only select 3 groups from the Virtual Casting Call. We remind you as well that the festival will take place in Barcelona...

RULE n.3
The selected groups must perform 6 SONGS from the ones in our CATALOGO Almaoke at each stage of the official competition.
a. THE QUARTET
Performance featuring the 4 group members.
b. DUET or TRIPLET
Performance featuring 2 or 3 group members of your choice.
c. THE UNINVITED GUEST
The song is determined by Almazen and will be the same for the three groups of the evening. You will be notified of which song you'll get as soon as the date of your presentation is set, don't worry ;) But the Host will determine the "style" in which each group must perform the song (Hawaiian, heavy metal, reggae, etc… wearing the appropriate customs and using appropriate props...) only minutes before your performance.
d. AT THE ENEMY'S REQUEST
One of your rival groups will determine which song you must perform. You will find out about it at the beginning of the evening and will be able to watch the song's music video 3 times.
e. IN YOUR OWN WORDS
You must perform a song of your choice, but replacing the original lyrics by one composed by your group.
f. THE SURPRISE FACTOR!
The surprise factor! is applied to the song you've chosen for this particular test when you submitted your application form. The surprise factor will be determined by draw the same evening of your performance and can be any of the following:
* THE FORBIDDEN WORD: Each time the forbidden word is mentioned in your song, you must replace it with “ALMAOKE!” The forbidden word is determined by the organisation seconds before your performance and its particular to each case.
* DEAF PEOPLE CONVERSATION: The members of your group will perform wearing headphones which, at times, will play other songs. Keep focused, as the audience will only hear what you sing along the right backing track!
* SHIT HAPPENS: The organisation against you. Overtake the 1001 technical problems that can happen to any professional artist on stage… blackouts, poor quality videos, garbled sound, fickle microphones, stupid technicians… and come out a winner! We'll evaluate your improvisation skills and professionalism.
* YOUR TURN: Using only one microphone, the four members must sing your song in turns. The turn will change each time the light signals it.
* 50/50: Convince the audience to sing 50% of your song, as you've been prohibited to sing more of the song's half. We'll evaluate your charisma and team-leader skills, essential qualities to become an Almaoke star.
You can add songs to our Catalogue until the submissions deadline. Contact us at info@almazen.net stating in the subject field: "Almaoke songs" and suggest your track. You must have the "karaoke" version of that song to make your request.
RULE n. 4
Each group owns a Joker
This Joker duplicates the point of a particular test in case you win (and deducts the same amount of points if you lose). So... bet for your hit! The Joker must be presented BEFORE performing the test (obviously...) and it's more valuable when applied to "AT THE ENEMY'S REQUEST" or "THE SURPRISE FACTOR" tests.
RULE n. 5
Only 9 teams will qualify for the second round: the winners of each Almaoke evenings events, the two best "second-best" groups and 1 group "saved by the audience".
The two best "second-best" groups will be determined by the score obtained after your performance.
The audience will "save" a third group from elimination by voting for it in our Almaoke Online Community. To vote for your favourite group, just join the group as a FAN.
RULE n. 6
During the second round of the festival, each selected group must perform 6 songs following the same criteria as in the first round. But you can only repeat 4 songs; that is, you must prepare 2 new songs of your choice.
The selection criteria will be the same as in the first round and the winners will be announced at the end of each competition evening.
RULE n. 7
Only 3 groups will qualify for the final round.
Each finalist group must perform 6 songs following the same criteria as in the first and second rounds. You can repeat 5 songs, but must prepare a new song of your choice.
The winner group will be announced at the end of the evening.
THE JURY
The Almaoke Jury will be conformed by 5 members:
* A member of Cabaret Cabrón's staff.
* A member of the ALMAZEN team.
* A personality of the showbiz.
* A member appointed by our main sponsor.
* The audience.
The jury will determine each evening's winner and announce all groups score to the date at the end of each competition evening.
The score is determined according to the following criteria:
- Interpretation
- Intonation
- Production design (including props, set decoration and character design)
- Team-work
- Choreography
- Charisma
- Improvisation skills
- Connection with the audience
NOTE: The audience's vote is determined by a "clap-meter" (this is, a boometer measuring the ambient sound level in decibels).
